Ziad, Vivek elected AMTOB chairman, vice-chairman

The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), platform of all six cellular operators’ in the country, elected new chairman and vice-chairman for the next term.

Ziad Shatara, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Banglalink, has been made chairman while Vivek Sood, CEO of Grameenphone, as vice-Chairman of the executive Council at election held on June 12 at its secretariat in the city’s Gulshan, said an AMTOB press release Monday.

Shatara would replace the outgoing AMTOB Chairman Chris Tobit, CEO of Airtel. “The telecom sector is a catalyst for the implementation of the government vision of Digital Bangladesh via providing connectivity at an affordable price,” said the newly elected chairman Shatara.

Vivek Sood said: “I firmly believe that the telecom industry in Bangladesh can play an important role in uplifting the economic condition of the country and its people.”

“The industry needs to collaborate and create a market environment where AMTOB can play a pivotal role in shaping developments that are beneficial to both operators and customers alike,” he added. —BSS
