Robi’s r-ventures start-ups showcase their credentials to investors

Dhaka, 19 May 2019: Five start-ups under Robi’s employee entrepreneurship programme, r-ventures, have recently showcased their business ideas to the local investors and industry experts.

The five digital start-ups under r-ventures had shared their progress and learnings from their year-long journey at the event named, Demo Day. Robi has provided an initial seed capital to all these start-ups under the year-long incubation phase of the r-ventures programme.

Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed attended the Demo Day as the chief guest. He showed great interest in all the start-ups under r-ventures programme and reiterated the company’s commitment to continue supporting the ventures as these businesses have the potential to bring about positive changes in our society.

The Demo Day was attended by local investors and industry experts like Mustafizur Rahman Khan from startup Dhaka, Minhaz Anwar, Muhaimin Khan and Joya Chowdhury from BetterStories, Javed Noor and Mohammad Jobayer Alam from IDLC, Anisa Ali and Tahmid F Kabir from Constellation Asset Management Company Limited, Ali Imam from Edge Research & Consulting and many more. All the five startups of Robi r-ventures had the opportunity to have one on one conversations with the local investors and industry experts.

The five start-ups include, Shuttle- an app based pick and drop transportation service that aims to provide safe, affordable and comfortable transportation for all women in Bangladesh. Shuttle currently offers 1,000 rides to women everyday and since its inception, it has offered more than 120,000 rides.

AirBringr – using “sharing economy” and “crowd sourcing” model, AirBringr, enables cross-border airline travelers to monetize their unused luggage space which in turn supports the local consumers who wish to shop from international marketplaces. AirBringr is offering two to three times faster delivery compared to traditional methods. It is experiencing 25% sales growth month on month (MoM) and 27% shopper growth MoM.

It also includes, Pixmama – the digital platform for all Bangladeshi contents that sells (including but not limited to) stock photos, videos, music etc. Already, 5,000 photographers have registered with the platform, created a photo inventory of 40,000 photographs, trained 400 photographers and organized seven photography contests.

Digital security provider start-up, Peep the Place, offers best CC Camera Security Solution that facilitates people’s digital lifestyle by providing real-time view of a place he/she intends to see. Various Police Stations, corporate houses, households and individuals are already subscribing to this service. Most notably, Peep the Place has been enlisted as a vendor for Axiata Group Berhad giving it access to many telco operators operating across Asia.

Another start-up is named, CommEngine & Zachai – CommEngine is a SocialCRM solution for brands and business using social media for customer communication. Zachai is an initiative by CommEngine that facilitates product tracking to ensure authenticity. CommEngine is currently providing commercial service to Robi itself.
