Robi provides safe drinking water for railway passengers

image_644_148372Robi, as part of its social corporate responsibility, has taken an initiative to provide safe drinking water at different rail stations to ensure fresh drinking water for railway passengers.

“Its a great job for thousands of people,??? narrates Abdul Malek, a Rajshahi bound passenger while collecting safe drinking water from Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital.

He said free safe drinking water was unusual in the city, which compelled people to buy bottled water for drinking. “So, the initiative of providing free safe drinking is praiseworthy,??? he concluded.

Inamul Huq, a passenger of Noakhali Upakul, said different countries in the world, even India, have facilities for safe drinking water. Now that Robi Axiata has introduced the service in our country we have free, safe, clean water which is very welcome.

He opined that the service should be ensured in every railway stations across the country, as only the divisional railway stations have such facilities at present.

Robi introduced the safe drinking water service in 2011 for the first time in the Kamalapur Railway station under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Later, the service was introduce at Dhaka Airport Station and other divisional railway stations in phases.

Robi with assistance from International NGO WaterAid provides 5,000 liters of safe water daily at every station through which male, female and handicapped people can collect water from separate rows.
