RMG makers can now save huge money, time for testing products

bgmea_2_0The BGMEA would now be able to conduct testing the locally-produced apparel products and certify them for exports as the National Accreditation Board of Testing and Calibration Laborites (NABL) India gave accreditation to its laboratory.

With achieving the strength in testing RMG products, the apex body of the country’s apparel makers will be able to offer the testing of apparel products and accessories at reduced rate, which would also boost competitiveness in the global market.

“It’s a remarkable achievement for us as BGMEA now achieved the strength to test RMG products with international quality???, said Md. Shahidullah Azim, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The laboratory will also help businessmen assess the quality of their products at a reduced rate, at least at 20 to 30 percent lower costs, he opined.

According to information from BGMEA, the stakeholders of RMG sector have been assessing their products through some international organizations including ITF and Bureau Veritas.

The organizations used to assess the standards of the products for which the stakeholders had to pay large amount of money. Besides, it was time consuming as the organizations had to send the samples abroad as they have no laboratories in the country.

As a result, the stakeholders, besides enjoying a reduced rate in testing the standard of the products, will also be able to save time now, said Shahidullah Azim.

“We had been trying to get the accreditation of NABL since a year. As we get it now the strength of BGMEA has been expanded largely???, he said.

Millions of taka will be saved for testing the apparel products at the laboratory in the BGMEA, said Azim adding that the laboratory will also reduce the sufferings of the stakeholders of the sector during assessing the quality of their products.

Bangladesh exports RMG products worth nearly $ 22 billion annually. The stakeholders need certificates over the quality that complies international standard.

Mentionable, BGMEA in association with Inditex have installed the laboratories at the BGMEA building. National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
