Pharmaceutical expo kicks off in capital

Three day long, 6th Meditex Bangladesh 2014 and 4th Pharma Bangladesh expo 2014 kicked off on Thursday ( 8 May 2014) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city.

Prime Minister’s Political Advisor HT Imam inaugurated the international pharma expo urging medical professionals to ensure more quality health services even outside the hospitals. Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS), Bangladesh organised the exposition in association with CEMS USA. The advisor said many patients are now getting healthcare services through online due to progress in digitization.

“This digitisation has made the practitioners and the patients connect together via mobile phone and internet services, especially for those who are living in the rural areas,??? said the advisor.

State minister for health Zahid Maleque pointed out about Tk 500 crore are being spent outside the country every year for treating Bangladeshi patients abroad. “If the local medicare facilities and technologies are improved, we can retain the money,??? said the state minister. Chaired by the president and group managing director of  CEMS, Bangladesh, Meherun N Islam, opening ceremony of the expo was also addressed by state minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque and health secretary MM Neazuddin.

The adviser also appreciated the recent development in medicare services. “Once there was a time when there was hardly any good hospital in Bangladesh. Today good hospitals such as Square, United, Lab Aid, Apollo, Ahsania mission hospital (specialized cancer hospital) and other forth are coming up,??? he added.

With international participation of companies from several countries the expo is showcasing world famous equipment and technology by bringing world class medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospital equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

More than 70 pharmaceutical companies with 100 booths are participating in the exhibition displaying their products, exchanging views, notes and business.
Medical and pharmaceutical companies from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Indonesia, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Switzerland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Taiwan, USA, UK; have been showcased in the exhibition.

To bring all the eminent doctors, medical practitioners, policy makers, suppliers and manufacturers and providers of machineries of pharmaceuticals and drug industry, under one roof; the exhibition is considered as complete resource tool for the entire Medical and Healthcare Industry of Bangladesh, stated the political advisor to PM, H T Imam at the inauguration ceremony. The exposition will be open for trade and public visitors from 8 to May 10, 2014 everyday form 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
