The Pangaon Container Terminal has been built as an alternative way for carrying goods on the waterways besides Dhaka-Chittagong Highway to facilitate the businesses.

The country’s business leaders including the BGMEA should make necessary efforts for peaceful operation of the recently-built Pangaon terminal.

Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) said this.

He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion with the leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the board room of the CPA in Chittagong on Wednesday. CPA Chairman presided over the meeting.

BGMEA President Md Atiqul Islam, BKMEA acting president Mohammad Hatem, Chittagong chamber President Mahbubul Alam, BGMEA First Vice President Nasir Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Shipping Agent Association vice president M Kamal Hayat, Freight Forwarders Association director Bakhtiar were present at the meeting.

While speaking, Md Atiqul Islam said the country’s RMG sector has been passing through a crucial juncture at present. Many RMG factories are facing closure due to countrywide political turmoil and the hike in wages of the workers of the sector.

He thanked Chittagong Port Authority for establishing the Pangaon Container Terminal for carrying goods on the waterways.
