Online sales of used car increase

carDHAKA, NOV 26: The sale of cars is increasing cumulatively in the online marketplace as car dealers in the country make use of the new dimension of marketing. Nowadays car buyers can just go online and have all prices and models in front of them, instead of having to visit showrooms. The country’s leading online marketplace Bikroy.com says that the number of secondhand car sale advertisements online in October has increased by 15 percent to more than 13000 advertisements since July this year on their site alone.

According to statistics from Bikroy.com, Toyota is the most popular brand among secondhand cars selling online.
In October, a total of 979 advertisements of Toyota Corolla cars have been posted on Bikroy.com at an average price of Tk 1,114,703.

The average price of a Toyota Axio was Tk 1,492,750 among 380 adverts received by the site. There  has also been a large number of advertisements of Toyota Premio and Allion brands.

A significant number of car dealers are regularly posting advertisements in online market places and selling their cars without any peril. One dealer, Md Shamim, owner of J. M. Car Center, has been posting ads regularly online and says that during Ramadan he posted an advert of Toyota F Premio model 2008 which he had bought just a day ago. After servicing the car, he placed the advert at around 11am for sale at Tk 1,600,000.

“Within 3 hours, I received 13 phone calls and all of them wanted to come see the car the same day.  After bargaining with 2-3 persons I sold the car at Tk 1,580,000 at 10:30pm the same day,??? he added.

The sales manager of A & A Car Centre Md Mamun stated that the market had taken a downturn in the last couple of months because of political instability and depreciation of foreign currency. However, from October the price of cars has picked up as the price of Japanese cars rose.

“Hartal could not hamper my business as buyers now search online and select cars from the adverts I post online,??? he added. Md Mamun informed that he sold 18 cars through Bikroy.com in October alone.

Car traders say they have hardly been able to open their showrooms due to the incessant hartals fearing attacks and vandalism by picketers. However, they are now posting adverts in online marketplaces to move their business forward.
