The bank has been giving the award to promote Bangladeshi exporters and recognise their contribution to the sustainable growth of the country’s economy

HSBC Bangladesh yesterday launched its Export Excellence Awards for the fifth consecutive year to recognise five exporters for their outstanding performance.

The bank has been giving the award to promote Bangladeshi exporters and recognise their contribution to the sustainable growth of the country’s economy through export.

“HSBC has 150 years of experience in facilitating global trade and this enables us to help businesses thrive and connect to global opportunities,??? said Andrew Tilke, chief executive officer of HSBC Bangladesh at a press meet in Dhaka.

“We are pleased to provide a platform for Bangladeshi exporters to showcase their capabilities and global potential.???

The five award categories are — readymade garments and textiles exporters (Group A and Group B), EPZ enterprises, traditional and emerging sectors, and SMEs (small and medium enterprises). HSBC, which started the awards in 2010, divided RMG and textiles exporters into two categories as these sectors account for a majority of the country’s exports.

RMG exporters with annual export turnover worth $50m or more are in Group A, and those with less than $50m are in Group B. Companies in the export processing zones will be awarded under the EPZ enterprises category.

The non-RMG or textiles companies with annual export turnover worth $5m or more will be awarded under the traditional and emerging sectors category.

The SME category is for the non-RMG or textiles companies with annual export turnover below $5m.

Through a sophisticated process of adjudication by an independent panel of jury members, winning exporters are selected based on not only the annual contribution to the national exports but also on the diversity, responsibility sustainability and governance strengths of their respective businesses. HSBC does not get involved at any stage of the winner adjudication process of this awards programme.

The bank’s head of corporate banking Md Mahbub-ur-Rahman said: “The excellence of entrepreneurs of Bangladesh is often best displayed by the exporters.??? He said they make Bangladesh more international.

“The journey of Bangladesh has been a success story and the relentless efforts of our exporters help the country being recognised as a country of great potentials across the globe.???

Local exporters can participate in the programme by filling out a nomination form on the bank’s website.

Exporters can also nominate other exporters in any category for the programme.

The deadline for submissions is May 21 and HSBC is expected to announce the winners in next two or three months.
