E-shop to boost Dhaka International Trade Fair sales

images (2)The 19th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF-2014), the country’s biggest trade show, began here today to project the latest development of products before local and foreign buyers.

E-shop (electronic trading) is among the new features of the month-long show while organisers expect the online trading will help bolster small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and create a unique opportunity to interact with potential buyers.

“A foreign buyer will be able to choose any potential Bangladeshi product from anywhere even if it is from a remote village,??? Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Member Secretary of DITF’14, told BSS on the fair premises at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the chief guest inaugurated the fair, jointly organised by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce.

Bikarna Kumar, also Deputy-Director of EPB, said, “We expect daily turnout of visitors will hit one lakh from next week.???

During the visit, it was seen that an array of local products of host Bangladesh especially electronics, traditional Jamdani products, jute and jute goods, leather and leather goods, export- oriented Readymade Garment (RMG) goods, furniture and handcrafts are being displayed in the show to woo foreign buyers.

Eva Rizwana, Executive Director (Plaza Sales and Development) of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd (Walton HIL), a local pioneer in manufacturing electronic goods, said this year too, the company expects huge response from local foreign buyers.

“We hope that we will be able to fulfill our sales’ target subject to stable political situation in the country,??? she said.

Ayubur Rahman, proprietor of Salma Jamdani Weaving Factory, a traditional Jamdani clothing manufacturer that is displaying Tangail Tant and Jamdani sarees, said the main objective of his company’s participation is to know the customers’ choice and attitude so that the quality of traditional Jamdani clothing could be improved unrestricted. —BSS
