BGMEA takes special move to transport goods to Chittagong port

imagesBGMEA along with police department has taken a special initiative to transport garments and other goods on Dhaka-Chittagong highway with special police escort during the ongoing blockade.

According to information, highway police will assist the goods-laden trucks to reach their destinations safely during the ongoing blockade while the BGMEA leaders will also help the process.

The total process will be monitored and coordinated by Md. Asaduzzaman Mia, PPM, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Bangladesh Police Highway Range, Dhaka and Riaz Bin Mahmud, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Goods will be sent to Chittagong from Dhaka in the night in two slots which will be escorted by highway police. On the way, the highway police of the respective districts including Comilla, Chowddagram, Feni, Mirsarai and Sitakunda will extend help to the goods-laden vehicles to reach safely to the destination. In such a way, goods from Chittagong will arrive in the capital.

Two special control rooms will remain open at BGMEA Dhaka and Chittagong office to monitor the process. The traders those are interested to transport goods with the squad have been asked to contact with BGMEA and send the names of their factories, number of vehicles and details and contact number to the BGMEA control room.

Md. Asaduzzaman Mia while addressing a view exchange meeting at BGMEA on Monday called upon the businessmen to contact with the BGMEA control room and police department. He also said that they will take the responsibility of the vehicles if it was being attacked while going to the destination.

According to information, the traders can transport their goods-laden vehicles from Sreepur to Kanchpur. The route will be Sreepur-Board Bazar-Tongi-Abdullahpur-Uttara-Airport-Kuril-Jatrabari-Kanchpir.

Besides, goods-laden trucks can be transported from Savar to Kanchpur. The route will be Savar-Ashulia-Norsinghapur-Abdullahpur-Uttara-Airport-Kuril-Jatrabari-Kanchpur. The local police will help reach the vehicles to Kanchpur. Later, two slots with special security of highway police will start from Kanchpur for Chittagong, it was learnt.
