Bangladesh can explore African ship market if provided support

Africa is a big market for Bangladesh shipbuilding industry and the sector can explore the market through government patronization for benefiting the country’s external trade.

Saiful Islam, Chairman of Western Marine Shipyard Limited said this while a Tanzanian delegation made a goodwill visit to the shipyard in Chittagong on Monday.

Mayor of Chittagong Mohammad Manjur Alam was present in this occasion as the chief guest.

The Tanzanian delegation was headed by the Regional Commissioner of Dar Es Salaam region in Tanzania Saidi Meck Sadick.

High officials from the Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Services Agency (TEMESA), a corporation under the Tanzanian Ministry of Works, accompanied Saidi Meck Sadick.

Mentionable, Western Marine Shipyard is building a ship for the Danish buyer JGH Marine and it will be owned by the government of Tanzania.

This ship is an aluminum body 300pax passenger ship which will be operated by TEMESA.

The management of Western Marine hopes that the visit of Tanzanian

delegation will strengthen the tie between Bangladesh and Tanzania and benefit both the nations through bilateral trade.

Western Marine Managing Director Sakhawat Hossain said that the global shipbuilding was at recession and now the market has again emerged.

He mentioned that Western Marine has signed contract with Tanzania and New Zealand last year and they are expecting to receive more orders from the African market in 2014.

The Tanzanian Regional Commissioner thanked the shipyard team for arranging the visit and mentioned that there are lots of business opportunities in Tanzania.

He invited a delegation from Bangladesh to visit Tanzania and explore their market for better business opportunities.
