Apparel exporters hopeful of roping in new buyers after US show

LAS VEGAS (USA), Feb 22 (BSS): Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are expecting a good business transition with new apparel buyers especially from the US and Canada as the three-day MAGIC Apparel Trade Show ended on Thursday in the tourist city of Las Vegas, Nevada, US.

Bangladesh, the world’s second largest destination for garment exporter after China, has successfully projected its latest apparel trends in the Men’s Apparel Guild in California (MAGIC) show, North America’s largest sourcing event for apparel products, at the Las Vegas Convention Centre.

A good number of visitors both sellers and buyers visited Bangladeshi stalls decorated with the world standard apparel products such as sweaters, shirts, T-shirts, polo shirts, trousers and knit and woven wear.

Maya Fashion Enterprises Ltd. (MFEL), AJ Group, Gloaps and Advance Attire Ltd. are among the Bangladeshi apparel manufacturers and suppliers took part in the event.

Talking to the news agency, chairman and CEO of Maya Fashions Md Monzurul Hassan said he received various inquires from many buyers especially from the US, Canada, Brazil and Vietnam.

“We held a number of meetings with buyers on garment issue,” he said adding that this business contact usually help apparel makers get export orders and then business transitions worth missions.

“Many new buyers wanted to know Bangladesh’s recent development of garment industry and I expect to be able to work with them,” said Mr Hassan. “Response from the buyers’ side was satisfactory. Buyers have shown keen interest in Bangladeshi apparel products,” said Salam Chowdhury, CEO of Advance Attire Ltd.

AJ Group Chief Operating Officer Md Kamal Hossain said he will set up a full fledge office in Los Angeles to coordinate with US buyers from Bangladesh.

The MAGIC show has accommodated over 1100 manufacturers from apparel and garment accessories and footwear sectors who are displaying an array of products including clothing and footwear and garment accessories.

The show, held in the Las Vegas twice in a year, the premier event for the international community of apparel, accessories and footwear professionals to share information, previews trends, build business and shop fashion unlike anywhere else in the industry.

Each February and August, tens of thousands of attendees from over 80 countries meet more than 5,000 emerging-to-established brands for business discussions in the show.
