10 firms win awards for outstanding role in increasing productivity

lllDHAKA, NOV 11: National Productivity Organisation (NPO) under the supervision of Industries Ministry for the first time on Monday (11 November 2013) awarded 10 industries under 6 categories for outstanding role in increasing productivity.

Attending as the chief guest, industries minister Dilip Barua handed over crests to the awardees of the “National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2012??? at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Monday. The award giving ceremony was presided over by industries secretary Md Moinuddin Abdullah while President of The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed was also present as special guest.

The award was divided into six categories—A. large industry, B. medium industry, C. small industry, D. micro industry, E. cottage industry and F. state-owned industry.

BRB Cable Industries Ltd. was awarded in large industry category while Bengal Windsor Thermoplastics Ltd. received the award in medium industry category. In the small industry award category, Prince Chemical Co. Ltd, Hifs Agro Food Industries, and Messer’s Roni Agro Engineering received the award as first, second and third respectively.

The award in the micro industry category went to Rong Handicrafts while Spadix Ltd received the award in cottage industry category.

Under the category F (state-owned industry), the NPO awarded the Carew and Co. (Bangladesh) Ltd. as No 1, Ashugonj Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd. as No 2 and Bangladesh Blade Factory Ltd. as No 3.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua said the award is the recognition of those entrepreneurs who are playing a remarkable role in increasing productivity in their industrial units.

This initiative will also create a competitive mindset among the entrepreneurs to increase productivity in their industrial output, he hoped and added that thus, the efforts to raise the desired productivity would be strengthened.

FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said Bangladesh has made a position in global market by delivering quality products at cheaper rates.

Despite serious political stalemate across the country in last couple of months, Bangladesh recorded 15 per cent growth in export during the period of July to September of the current fiscal year 2013-14.

This is happened due to mainly increase of productivity in the industrial units, he said and added that the awareness regarding productivity has been created among the people.

Parvez Rahman, managing director of BRB Cable Industries Ltd, Humayan Kabir, managing director of Bengal Windsor Thermoplastics Ltd, MA Mannan, managing director of Prince Chemical Co. Ltd, Syed Md Soaib Hasan, managing director of Hifs Agro Food Industries, GM Nurul Islam Roni, managing director of Messer’s Roni Agro Engineering, Tanuja Rahman Maya, proprietor of Rong Handicrafts, Renuara Begum Renu, proprietor of Spadix Ltd, SM Sudarshan, managing director of Carew and Co. (Bangladesh) Ltd, Mohammad Salahuddin, managing director of Ashugonj Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd and Md Alauddin, managing director of Bangladesh Blade Factory Ltd. received the crests from the industries minister on behalf of their respective organisations.

Dr Md Nazrul Islam, director of NPO, was also present at the award giving ceremony.
